As reported, the idea of a front counter in Bitterne had been mentioned in a live streamed Q&A in August, but no timescale has yet been published for the suburb.

The Bitterne front counter service “moved to Portswood Police Station” in 2016, the year the old Whites Road station, pictured, closed.

Stations in Cowes, Portsmouth Central, Park Gate, Petersfield, Totton, Ryde, Yateley, Eastleigh, Cosham and Gosport will however benefit from public access, it was announced this week, with projected opening times ranging from the end of this year to early 2025, and in the case of Gosport, “TBC”.

Police and crime commissioner Donna Jones (Conservative), left, said: “My plan will ensure there is a police station open to the public in every district across our two counties. This means people will be able to pop into their local station to report a crime, hand over property, or simply to get advice or seek reassurance.”
