The application [ref 23/00060/TPO on the council's planning portal] suggests permission is being sought for work in relation to civil aviation, on various species of tree including Sycamore, Beech, Scots Pine and Oak, which are owned by Southampton International Airport.

It wants to reduce the crown of the trees by varying amounts. It notes on planning paperwork that they have preservation orders, they aren’t diseased or causing damage to properties, and that they’re in a conservation area.

The airport was recently refused permission by Southampton City Council to reduce the height of 60 trees on land adjacent to Mansbridge Lock in the Itchen Valley Conservation Area [application ref 23/00020/TCA on the council's planning portal].
