Some five weeks after the power cut that affected parts of the ward and may have caused it to conk out, it’s understood that the repair of the Triangle clock has now “been approved”.

But so far we haven’t had word of an actual date – and certainly not time – for the work to be carried out on the idiosyncratic timepiece.
Presumably it’s more involved than simply putting in some new AAs and setting the right time: in 2019 issues with the clock meant specialist repairers Smith of Derby had to be mobilised, making a new movement and repairing one of the faces.
And in 2013 the company was also enlisted to reset the clock after six pigeons who moved in to the tower caused time chaos in Bitterne Park, reportedly laying eggs amongst the works.
The tower was moved to the Triangle from the city centre in 1935, and is a well-known landmark – not least because it leans slightly.
