Having taken on the lease in December, there were originally hopes that it would open as early as February 2023.

But owners Phil and Karen discovered more work to do before they could start trading.

“We have completed the renovations ourselves and hope you will like the changes we have made,” they explained.

“We hope to continue Graham’s great tradition as well as bringing some of the Plested Pie tradition to Bitterne.

“We will evolve the product offering over the coming months, bringing back some of Cotton’s favourites including donuts and Graham’s famous Pink Pig biscuit!”

Also advertised on the shop’s menu boards are, of course, pies (Plested, meat and potato, chicken and mushroom, curry and chicken balti); bakes (steak, chicken and mushroom, chicken and ham and cheese and mushroom); pasties (including Cornish, steak and stilton, steak and ale and a vegan vegetable pasty), and other savouries.

The shop will also be selling bread - some made to Graham Cotton’s recipes - drinks and more.

As reported, the shop closed as Cotton’s Bakery after 49 years last June due to health issues.Graham Cotton Riverside Park Aug 23 600px 20230816 153927
