Following the power cut that disrupted the ward and potentially affected the clock's functionality, the repair looks set to finally move ahead, some eight weeks later.
Cllr Phil Webb explained on Facebook: "I'm led to believe that the delays have been related to it needing not just resetting but a full service, and the repairs for both this and the Holyrood Memorial Clock had to go through the standard Cost Control Panel, and also factoring in the servicing company's availablility."
As previously reported, historical complications with the clock, including a 2019 incident requiring specialised attention from Smith of Derby, and a 2013 episode involving pigeons wreaking havoc on the timekeeping mechanism, hint at the unique challenges faced by the clock's maintenance team.
