The council has said it intends to install a pedestrian crossing across Mousehole Lane — a route used by many children walking to and from their schools.

A public notice says the council intends to put in a puffin crossing “from 10m west of the north-western kerb-line of Glenfield Avenue eastwards to 1m north-east of the north-east boundary of 72 Mousehole Lane”.
As reported in July, the idea was discussed after funding was secured for creating safer routes to schools, and a ‘perception survey’ was carried out.
Ward councillor Tony Bunday (ind) described the plan as “fantastic news”.
He told bitternepark.info: “I was alerted last year by local parents and school governors to the dangers of children and parents having to cross this very busy road to get to and from about seven local schools with no local safe crossing point.
“I was alarmed by what I witnessed when invited to visit to see from myself.
“Since then I been working with local parents and schools, along with Cllr Keogh, Cabinet member for Transport, to get this crossing.
"This is fantastic news and will greatly increase safety locally. Hopefully it will also encourage more children to walk to school”.
The authority is consulting on the move until January 12.
