City intensifies help for rough sleepers during cold snap

homeless person sleeping on street unsplashAs temperatures plummet, the city council is intensifying efforts to assist rough sleepers, activating its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol until Thursday (Jan 11), when measures will be reviewed.

Additional emergency spaces, beyond the year-round accommodation, aim to shelter those at risk of sleeping on the streets.

The Street Homeless Prevention Team is enhancing street outreach to locate individuals, urging them to accept assistance.

To aid in this crucial initiative, the public can report concerns about rough sleepers This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. — or call 999 for emergencies.

Encouraging visits to the Homeless Day Centre, responsible giving, volunteering, and supporting local charities are highlighted as effective ways for public involvement.

To support rough sleepers by donating, you can go through GoFundMe. The council says donations go straight to local charities Two Saints, No Limits and Society of St James.
