A citizen science WhatsApp group of strategically located individuals for reporting on frequent sewage odours around the river is looking for two or more volunteers in Bitterne Park

As previously reported, volunteers in various locations have got together to try to record each odour incident, which they are compiling centrally.
Organiser Jan Krumins said there are already a couple of people helping from Bitterne Park, but they are both near the school.
He said: “We'd like people who use WhatsApp, because then it's just a simple matter of sending a very quick message to the chat group on days when there is a smell, rating it as slight, moderate or severe. But absolutely no worry or obligations if you are not around. The purpose of this is to get some hard data on how often and where these 'pong incidents' occur.”

The move comes as an Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) request to Southern Water has been filed, as previously reported, requesting a copy of the odour management plan for the Portswood site, opposite Riverside Park.
