It invites 7-17-year-olds to unleash their literary prowess by crafting short stories, blogs, or poems centred around the theme ‘Library of the Future’.
Prizes include book vouchers, and having work recorded by an actor and then broadcast on community station Awaaz FM.
There are three different age categories, giving participants the chance to showcase their talent, with an award ceremony in May.
The competition is being run in partnership with new library operator Awaaz FM, University of Southampton, Improbable Club, Southampton Story Club, October Books and Light UP Youth Theatre.
All the details, including submission guidelines and forms, can be found on FoCRL’s website.
The deadline for entries is April 16 22/
Promotional materials like A4 posters and social media-friendly images are also available from the site to help spread the word to budding writers, and help shape the narrative of libraries.
As reported, Cobbett library is currently open on Wednesdays from 1-5pm. Beyond March the intention is to open during these times on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (except bank holidays), and the hope is also to offer a Saturday service eventually.
New operator Awaaz FM is keen to attract more volunteers to sustain opening times – anyone interested can leave their details at the library. The city’s stock of books can also be browsed online and ordered for collection from Cobbett.
