At the time of writing the crowdfunder has reached £2,163 of its £3,000 target.
As previously reported, the group has already conducted tests for E.coli, and wants to now carry out further sampling and analysis to “force a review of Southern Water's wholly inadequate treatment of the six Olympic Swimming Pools worth of sewage effluent” which it says are being poured into the Itchen Estuary every day.
There are a number of comments from supporters on the crowdfunder page.
One said: “Thank you for spearheading this research to seek accountability and hopefully [compulsory] action,” while another added: “Such terrific citizen science - thank you Friends of the Itchen Estuary!”
