The prediction is 5.64m, which is slightly more than a Valentine’s Day flood of 2014.

Tuesday's early morning tide at 00:30 and 02:00 on April 9 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 6 winds, says the Itchen estuary warning.

“The river will be out of bank at Riverside Park, making the edge of the river channel impossible to see. Flood depths in roads and the park will be significant, and water will be fast flowing. After this tide the weather becomes more settled but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024).”

Residents in St Denys are being advised to install flood protection an hour before high tide, and the warning is to “avoid flooded areas of Riverside Park”.

For Mansbridge the warning says: “The car garage and pub will flood if flood protection is not installed.” It reiterates: “Large areas of Riverside Park will also be affected.”

All local warnings and alerts, which give more detail, are available from this government webpage.

The city council has also posted on social media, warning about likely flooding.
