Warning: Avoid park; activate flood protection

St Denys residents are being advised to install flood protection if they have it an hour before high tide, and people are being advised to avoid Riverside Park, as flood warnings are issued for the Itchen estuary, Mansbridge and Woodmill.

The prediction is 5.64m, which is slightly more than a Valentine’s Day flood of 2014.
Tuesday's early morning tide at 00:30 and 02:00 on April 9 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 6 winds, says the Itchen estuary warning.

Both tidal and non tidal areas have just been escalated to EA Flood Warnings now. "For 1 hour either side of high water, the tide will flow across the road, flooding Woodmill Lane and Woodmill Activity Centre. The river will be out of bank at Riverside Park..."

“The river will be out of bank at Riverside Park, making the edge of the river channel impossible to see. Flood depths in roads and the park will be significant, and water will be fast flowing. After this tide the weather becomes more settled but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024).”
Residents in St Denys are being advised to install flood protection an hour before high tide, and the warning is to “avoid flooded areas of Riverside Park”.

For Mansbridge the warning says: “The car garage and pub will flood if flood protection is not installed.” It reiterates: “Large areas of Riverside Park will also be affected.”
Due to spring tides and strong winds, minor coastal flooding is probable overnight tonight and into Tuesday.
