An ‘ePetition’ has been launched urging Southampton City Council to improve the play area at Portswood Recreation Ground.

It focuses on replacing equipment it says was removed in 2023, putting in safer surfacing and changing fencing to enable better maintenance.
Says the petition: “In 2023 two large pieces of play equipment catering for older children were removed from the play area at Portswood Rec. A roundabout that remains is regularly jammed and cannot be turned by children. The carpet flooring has been in place for 30 years, repaired numerous times and splitting at the seams and repair sites. It is an unsafe trip hazard.”
The petition is here, runs on the council’s website until the end of May, and at the time of writing has attracted seven signatures.
On what was Twitter, Friends of Portswood Rec tweeted: “If you live, work or study in Southampton and agree that it's time the surfacing and play equipment at the Rec should be replaced, please share and sign the petition”.
