The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK’s biggest reading for pleasure programme for children, says charity The Reading Agency, and helps get approximately 700,000 children into libraries each year.
It will run from July 6 to August 31 and is based around local libraries.
Developed with arts charity Create, this year the challenge offers a variety of activities including dance, drawing, junk modelling, and music.
Participation is free for all children. To join, children can visit their local library during opening hours and set their own reading goals or aim for the standard six-book challenge.
A special launch event will also be held at Central Library on July 6 from 11am to 1.30pm with free craft activities, story time with author/illustrator Margaret Sturton, an offering by Light the South, and you can join the Summer Reading Challenge 2024.
