Updated: Bitterne Road West was closed between Northam Bridge and Bullar Road / Athlestan Road on Saturday evening (Aug 10) as firefighers used eight fire engines and an aerial ladder to tackle a blaze at an end-of-terrace property.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the fire, in the loft space of the property, spread to two adjoining properties.
They.advised local residents to keep windows and doors closed if smoke affected their property.

The fire service said they expected local roads to be closed for some time.
They later reported that the operation was being scaled down, all residents had been evacuated safely, and there were no known injuries.
Southampton Travel later tweeted that the road had been reopened.
