Work, when it starts, could take around three months to repair a retaining wall on St Denys Road, involve “an electricity shut down for certain properties” and the full closure of the westbound carriageway for a cable diversion, according to a new council page.

The project, a collaboration between the council, Balfour Beatty, Network Rail and Scottish Southern Electricity Networks, is to secure the stability of the road’s retaining wall between Adelaide Road and Thomas Lewis Way.
As most locals will be only too aware, one lane of St Denys Road has been closed to traffic on the westbound approach to Thomas Lewis Way since before the start of the year following what’s been described as a landslip, resulting in a number of issues.
No date is yet given for work starting, although it is likely to take around three months, according to the new council web page, which says the wall remains unstable and is in need of comprehensive rebuilding.

The key focus of the planning has been to minimise the duration of a full closure of the westbound carriageway, which will be necessary for the diversion of electricity cables, says the council.
This will also involve a temporary shutdown of electricity for certain properties in the area.
Regular planning meetings have been ongoing since May, with “All parties ... working collaboratively to ensure that once site works commence, the work conducted by each team will be effectively scheduled and completed as safely and efficiently as possible”.
The council has promised to provide further updates on the project’s timeline in the coming weeks.
