Some drivers have “become aggressive and are abusive to the crews” trying to empty new industrial wheelie bins from the Triangle, and cause other safety concerns.

A review of trial rubbish arrangements at the Triangle reveals that there are ongoing issues and safety concerns at the location.
It explains that to empty the large new bins, by the Voi scooter dock, the collection vehicle has to block the road for the operatives’ safety, so cars can’t overtake.
“Because it is a busy road, some road users do not like this, become aggressive, and are abusive to the crews and try to pass the vehicle erratically, causing safety concerns”.
The bins in question, photographed on Thursday (Oct 10).
The review says that “issues at this location are likely to be ongoing while the safety matters are being worked through”, and adds, “waste will be cleared when it’s safe to do so by a spare crew”.
It comes after the new bins overflowed in mid September for a few days and rubbish, and additional waste was left next to them as there was no more room.
There was however only one report to the council about the situation, and the situation was resolved shortly afterwards.
As reported, the introduction of the industrial wheelie bins is part of a trial to try to overcome other waste management issues at the Triangle.
The area was previously considered for seating.
Street cleaning and other issues can be reported to Southampton City Council from their page here.
