All household waste and recycling collections, including glass and garden, will operate as usual up to and including Tuesday, December 24. However, there will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year’s Day, as waste crews and disposal sites will be closed.

Bitterne Park, where collections typically occur on Tuesdays, escapes major disruption this year. However, city-centre areas usually served on Christmas and Boxing Days will be affected.

General waste in these areas will be prioritised on Friday, December 27, with extra crews catching up on suspended collections. Recycling and glass collections missed on these dates will resume on residents’ next scheduled day.

Online council bin calendars will soon be updated with revised schedules.

Waste volumes are understood to rise by around 30% during the festive season.
