Roadworks and closures to note for drivers this week

traffic jam cars unsplashUpdated: Here are the latest scheduled roadworks and traffic changes set to take place near our area over the coming days, according to the latest updates from Southampton City Council.

Onslow Road will operate with temporary traffic signals overnight on January 27 (7pm to 6am) for carriageway repairs, while Bevois Valley Road will also see temporary signals on January 28 (7pm to 6am) for telecoms works.

Development works at the Wide Lane junction near Mountpark are ongoing with temporary traffic signals in place until February 21.

Woodmill Lane, which had temporary traffic signals for gas works, has reportedly finished ahead of schedule. For further details, see our previous piece.

Hill Lane at the Warwick Road junction will have temporary traffic signals from January 29 to February 4 for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks works.

Temporary traffic signals will also be in operation on West End Road on January 31 (10am to 3:30pm) for tree safety works.

In other traffic news, the trial of the part-time Portswood bus gate begins on Monday, January 27. The bus gate will operate from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm, Mondays to Saturdays. See our earlier article for more details.

As reported, work on the Mousehole Lane drainage project is scheduled to begin on February 3. You can find further background in our previous piece.

It was later announced drainage survey work on Northam Bridge will be taking place from Monday, February 10, expected to take five nights. During this time, a road closure will be in place on Northam Bridge between the hours of 8pm and 6am: 10/11/12th a westbound clousre between Rampart Road and Princes Street, with the bridge remaining open in the opposive direction, and 13/14th an eastbound closure between Union Road and Englefield Road. The signed diversion will be via Cobden Bridge, with pedestrian access to Northam Bridge throughout.

It's also understood that Macnaghten Road works will take place overnight for carriageway road markings renwal, with a road closure on Macnaghten Road between Bullar Road and
Whitworth Road. A diversion route will be signposted.
