Ofsted’s report from their officers’ inspection of Bitterne Park Primary School, which took place on May 7 and 8, said that pupils “strive eagerly to embody the school’s vision for children to be ‘architects of a better world’”.
It added that pupils “passionately take on local causes such as campaigning to improve the water of the local river”, and benefit from a wide range of clubs, trips and community activities.
“The school has established a highly ambitious, broad curriculum. The school’s clear vision underpins the curriculum. Themes of sanctuary and ecology thread through pupils’ learning seamlessly. Consequently, pupils are enthused by what they learn,” reported Ofsted.
Teaching is of a high quality, the school is “extremely well led”, and the “school’s vision for developing pupils’ character is exceptional”, noted the report.
The school is also “passionate about working in partnership with its community”.
Although the school inspection watchdog has stopped giving single-word overall judgements to schools since September 2024, Ofsted rated Bitterne Park Primary as ‘Outstanding’ in each of the five key judgement areas:
- Quality of education
- Behaviour and attitudes
- Personal development
- Leadership and management
- Early years provision
The school’s previous overall inspection grade was also ‘Outstanding’, from a full inspection in September 2014.
