Townhill Park regeneration 'moving forward'

townhill park large mosaic Progress is being made on the drawn out Townhill Park housing estate regeneration project, councillors have been told.

A senior city council officer said the majority of the Townhill Park sites were now moving forward with registered housing providers.

The protracted scheme, which dates back more than a decade, will see old council housing stock replaced by more than 600 homes and a wide-range of neighbourhood improvements.

Tina Dyer-Slade, director of corporate estate and assets, provided an update on the project at an overview and scrutiny committee meeting on Thursday, August 21.

“The majority of sites at Townhill Park are now moving forward with registered providers with a track record of delivering new homes, managing new homes well and working with communities in the city,” Ms Dyer-Slade said.

“There are still a couple of plots at Townhilll Park still to have options concluded in relation to those and taken forward.

“That gives flexibility to work with the cabinet member on how to take those forward.”

The committee heard affordable housing provider Abri was taking forward the plot at the Meggesson Avenue parade and the area between Benhams Road, Meggeson Avenue and Hallet Close.

These two sites will deliver 189 homes, as well as a commercial building, shop and a community café.

Ms Dyer-Slade confirmed the plot at the top of Meggeson Avenue which borders Townhill Way and Paulet Close, and the plot at Rowlands Walk had been allocated to a provider, with an announcement expected in early September.

The provider, who was not named at the meeting, will take forward plans for more than 170 new homes across the two sites, with a mix of flats and houses.

The council is also currently out to procurement on a plot at the top of Copse Road, which is expected to provide 20 to 30 homes, likely to be three-bed properties.

On this opportunity, Ms Dyer-Slade said: “The registered providers that are already taking forward some of the plots at Townhill Park are particularly interested as are others on the affordable homes framework.”
