Police stopped an Audi on Bevois Valley Road that they said smelt of cannabis.

“As the officer got out of his car, the Audi made off at speed on Northam Road onto Bitterne Road West,” a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said.

“The Audi was then seen driving on the wrong side of the road, and was in collision with another vehicle.”

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Reading, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of drugs.

A passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.

Both currently remain in custody, according to the spokesperson.
