Volunteers build insect homes in Riverside Park

Bug homes supplied 600pxVolunteers gathered on Saturday (Oct 25) in Riverside Park to help create habitats for bees, butterflies, moths and other insects, boosting the park’s biodiversity.

The community effort, organised by the Friends of Riverside Park, saw helpers fill five gabions with twigs, straw, bricks and other natural materials, and construct a couple of log piles. The nectar-rich planting planned for the event will be completed in the coming week.

As reported, funding has also been secured to hire a professional ecologist to carry out a detailed survey of the old pitch and putt course north of Woodmill Lane.
