Owners Jackie and Chas Tomlin said that after running the cafe for eight years it is “no longer viable for us to continue to keep it going financially”.

“We are incredibly grateful for the 8 years we’ve spend serving you and for the countless memories made within these walls,” they said on social media.

They thanked customers for their support and asked them to continue to “pop in for your favourite treats and to see us all before April”.
One person suggested that, now the situation is known, “we can all be rallied to save The Songbird”, but Jackie Tomlin confirmed “The decision is definite”.
The Songbird opened in September 2015 under previous owners Andrea and Kevin Rayner. It had previously been converted into Dora’s Cups and Cones, opening in 2014 with a greater focus on ice cream. Prior to that the unit was used for longstanding pet shop Alphapet.
