
The Shirley ward by-election, which took place on Thursday (Feb 26) following the resignation of Lib Democrat councillor George Percival, has been won by 21 votes by Lib Dem Chris Shank, who will serve the rest of the term created by the vacancy - until May 2027. Read more for the full results.
The full breakdown of results was:
- Paul Chance – Reform UK: 681
- James Clark – Labour Party: 954
- Joanne Clements – Green Party: 539
- David Cowley – Trade Union and Socialist Coalition: 16
- Andy Palmer – Conservative Party: 288
- Andrew Douglas Pope – Independent Network: 122
- Chris Shank – Liberal Democrat: 975
Total votes cast 3,581. Turnout 35%.
It means the make-up of Southampton City Council seats is again now:
- Labour - 31
- Conservative - 9
- Liberal Democrat - 7
- Green - 2
- Independent - 1
- Reform UK - 1
