Council to host online event for International Women’s Day

IWD 26 image SCC 600pxSouthampton City Council will host an online keynote speaker event on Monday (March 9) to mark International Women’s Day and celebrate women living and working across the city.

The event, hosted by the council’s chief executive Jillian Kay and the Sheriff of Southampton, Councillor Pat Evemy, will feature speakers including radio presenter Zoe Hanson, Maurie’s Sandwich Shop founders Phoebe and Maisie White, and Jenni Douglas-Todd, chair of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and the Isle of Wight Trust.

International Women’s Day, marked globally on March 8, celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is #GiveToGain, with the International Women’s Day flag also set to be flown at the Civic Centre and the Southampton O2 Guildhall lit purple to mark the occasion.

Residents can watch the event online via a livestream from 6pm. Other activities across the city are listed on the Visit Southampton website.
