A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said: “Crews from St Mary’s and Hightown were called to reports of a fire at a commercial building on Cobden Avenue, Southampton, at 11:00am yesterday.
“The fire, involving pallets at the rear of the building, was extinguished using multiple hose reel jets. The stop message was received at 11:40am, though crews remained on scene briefly to clear fumes from the property.”

Reports suggested the interior of the shop wasn’t damaged, but there was some damage externally.
Steve Parnell, a Bitterne Park United Reformed Church volunteer, which is next door, told the Daily Echo he’d “never seen anything like it”. He confirmed the fire didn’t reach the church itself.
A lane restriction was put in place on Cobden Avenue while emergency services attended, the city council confirmed via their Southampton Roads Bluesky account. They reported the incident had cleared by around 12.30pm.
