NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) says donors more likely to stay at home during the winter and many people unable to donate due to seasonal coughs and colds, so it’s vital that those who can give blood at the moment do so. The whole process takes around an hour – with the actual donation taking less than ten minutes – and could save the life of up to three people.
There are sessions at Pear Tree Church Hall, Pear Tree Road, Itchen SO19 7GU on Friday, 21st October, and at Itchen College, Middle Road, Bitterne SO19 7TB on Wednesday, October 26 that need your support.
Jonathan Sewell, Lead Donor Relations Manager for NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “We need to collect thousands of units of blood every day to provide patients in hospitals across the country with lifesaving transfusions. At this time of year blood stocks tend to dip because people are unable to give blood, so it’s important that people come forward to donate if they can do.”
Anyone aged between 17 and 65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. There is no upper age limit for those who have donated in the last two years. To book an appointment call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk
