• Arnold Road
• Belmont Road - from its junction with Portswood Road to its junction with St Denys Road
• Blenheim Gardens
• Bowden Lane
• Brickfield Road
• Church Lane
• Donnington Grove
• Granby Grove
• Grosvenor Close
• Grosvenor Gardens
• Grosvenor Road
• Hartley Avenue
• Highfield Crescent
• Hilldown Road
• Holyrood Avenue
• Kitchener Road
• Merton Road
• Northcote Road
• Osbourne Road North
• Richmond Gardens
• Ripstone Gardens
• Royston Close
• Shaftesbury Avenue
• Sherborne Road
• Sirdar Road
• Somerset Road
• University Road - from the extended southern boundary line of Number 37 University Road to its junction with Welbeck Avenue
• Upper Grosvenor Road
• Upper Shaftesbury Avenue
• Welbeck Avenue
The council says the changes are intended to improve safety, cut accidents and make streets more accessible, particularly for children and other vulnerable road users, while also “improving air quality”.
It adds: “Southampton City Council has received a Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) settlement to implement improvements in the Portswood area. Following a trial of ATZ [Active Travel Zone] measures across Portswood it has been recommended that the implemented 20mph limit is extended to cover neighbouring residential roads.”
As reported, the council recently faced calls to introduce 20mph limits on roads in the east of the city, and requests for 20 zones on some roads around Bitterne Park - including a long-running petition for Manor Farm Road, which is home to a local primary school - date back to at least 2021.
