Friends of Riverside Park (FORP) say the British Trust for Ornithology is running a new community science project, Birds in Greenspaces, which will look at how important parks and other public spaces are for birds.
The UK-wide survey, running from April to June, invites people of all ages and experience levels to record the birds they see in local green spaces such as parks, playing fields and cemeteries. The data collected will help inform how these areas are managed in future, benefiting both wildlife and people.
Residents can sign up for free and take part using the project app via the British Trust for Ornithology.
For those who need help identifying species, the group also recommends the free Merlin Bird ID app
Volunteers are asked to spend time in their chosen green space noting which birds they see and hear, helping researchers better understand how these everyday environments support wildlife.
• FORP are also running a wildlife survey and a bat walk in May.
