A free evening bat walk is set to take place at Riverside Park later this month, giving residents a chance to see and hear bats in their natural habitat.

Bats are the UK’s only true flying mammals and use echolocation to navigate and hunt insects after dark.
The event, on Friday 8 May at 8.15pm, is being organised by Friends of Riverside Park with support from Hampshire Bat Group.
It will begin with a short talk from an expert before participants are led through the park to look and listen for bats using specialist detectors. Species such as pipistrelles and Daubenton’s bats may be spotted.
As the walk will finish after dark, participants are advised to bring a torch for the return.
The event is free and open to all, starting from Woodmill Lane car park (what3words: dizzy.dared.people).
