The council has announced that the play area at Southampton Common has undergone “a major transformation” and is now open again.

Southampton City Council said the play zone now has “new play equipment, improved sand play areas and upgraded water play features, creating “more opportunities for children to play, explore and be active”.

The project had been delayed following some “unexpected groundwork challenges”, said the council, but the gates are now open again.
"The new facilities provide more opportunities for play, adventure and outdoor activity, and we're looking forward to seeing residents make the most of them throughout the summer and beyond," said Cllr John Savage, cabinet member for environment and net zero.
