This year's charity duck race from Mansbridge to Woodmill raised £5,000 for community causes - despite strong winds preventing the ducks from reaching the finish line.

Organisers said all 2,500 tickets were sold, with the money set to provide £5,000 of community support through the two local Lions clubs over the next year or so.

But the race itself proved eventful, with the wind taking “the upper hand” during the latter stages and preventing the ducks from swimming to the installed finish line.

Organisers reported they hastily moved the finish to where the ducks had congregated, removing them from the water in order of how far they had travelled upstream to identify the 20 prize winners.

Organisers thanked Woodmill Coffee Kitchen, which helped sell tickets, and local businesses including Little Hair Co, Comptons, Mumbai Kitchen, Bitterne Park Barbers, Haskins Cafe, Riverside Diner and HobbyCraft for their support.

Meanwhile, organisers are trying to trace a prize winner named Cristina, who bought a ticket but did not leave contact details. Anyone who believes they may be the winner is asked to contact the organisers on This email address is being protected from spambots. A pair of Belkin wi-fi earbuds was also handed in at the race's administration gazebo at around 4pm. The owner can contact organisers and identify their colour to reclaim them.
