We were called just after 10pm on September 1 to a report that a man at an address in Brookvale Road had suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.
Officers attended, where a 36-year-old man was found with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital by paramedics, where he remains receiving treatment.
As part of our investigation, we have arrested two people.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The pair, who both live in Southampton, remain in custody at this time.
A knife has also been recovered from the scene.
Detectives from our Southampton CID have been overseeing our investigation today, while officers from the local policing team have been carrying out patrols.
If you do have any concerns or any information you wish to share, then you can speak to officers when you see them in the area.
And in an update on Thursday (Sept 3), a police spokesperson added:
"Investigators are continuing enquiries today, and have been granted a custody extension for the two people, a man and a woman, who had previously been arrested.
"Just before midnight last night (September 2), a second man, aged 32 and who lives in Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody at this time."
They added their local neighbourhood policing team will be on patrol around Portswood today, including in Brookvale Road, and can be approached by the public with any questions or concerns.
