Art Then! British Painting, Sculpture and Drawing, 1910–1960 brings together works from the gallery’s collection and loans from The Ingram Collection of Modern British Art.
It offers a rare opportunity to see works by some of the 20th century’s most celebrated artists, including Barbara Hepworth, Eric Ravilious, Henry Moore, Paul Nash, David Bomberg, Elisabeth Frink and Lucian Freud.
The exhibition, curated by art historian and author Dr David Boyd Haycock, explores how British artists responded to new artistic movements including Impressionism, Expressionism, Fauvism and Surrealism. It runs until February 21, 2027.
Art Then! is at Southampton City Art Gallery, Commercial Road, from September 26 to February 21. Admission is free. The gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10am-3pm, and Saturdays, 10am-5pm.
