Witness appeal: assault in Riverside Park

Police investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old a man was assaulted in Riverside Park at around 10pm on January 2 are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The man was walking through the park, making his way to a friend's house., and passed a group of around seven people.

He was hit on the back of the head and fell to the ground, unconscious. He then regained consciousness a short time later and was alone. Nothing had been stolen from him.

Officers are now trying to ascertain what may have happened and why the man was assaulted in this way. Any witnesses, or anyone with any information, should contact Southampton Central police station.

The path from Cobden Bridge down to the park, which was closed during Tuesday morning, has now been re-opened.
