The 19-year-old man told police that he and some friends were walking through the park when they were confronted by a large group of youths.

He was attacked from behind and punched in the face, causing him to later require hospital treatment for a broken jaw.

His attacker is described as:

  • black
  • in his late teens
  • slim build
  • wearing a light blue tracksuit top

“This was an unprovoked and cowardly attack on a young man,” said PC Andy Lucas, who is investigating. “He was walking away from the offender at the time he was punched and sustained serious injuries.”

Police say they’ve increased patrols in the area, and are asking for witnesses, who can contact Bitterne CID on 101 or via their website . You can also call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
