Labour took control of Southampton City Council in the local elections, with the Tories losing 10 seats, but Bitterne Park remained blue and voted in two Conservative councillors.
Labour has taken control of Southampton City Council, gaining 11 seats in the local election on May 3, 2012. The Tories lost 10 seats and the Lib Dems lost one. But Bitterne Park remained blue by voting in two Conservative councillors: Ivan White retained his seat polling 1216 votes, while John Inglis won Phil Williams' old seat with 1203 votes. Labour's Frances Murphy was hard on the heels of the Tories, with 1135 votes, while fellow Labour candidate Mike Holder polled 979.
The two Lib Dem ward candidates polled 334 and 331, with independent Ann MacGillivray coming home with 333 votes. The Greens polled 292, Independent Charles Caplin 242 votes, and Nick Chaffey for Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts attracted 136 votes.
