Southampton electors again gave no party overall control of the city: the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats each have 16 seats. In Bitterne Park Philip Williams, the Conservative candidate, was elected.
Overall the turnout was 31.3 per cent - an increase of 3.4 per cent over the 2004 poll. There was no city council election in 2005.
