Midanbury: cash box robbery target

A security guard was carrying a secure cash box from the Co-op store in Midanbury on the afternoon of Thursday, June 28 when he was threatened by another man, who then made off with the box. It was later recovered in a bin near flats in Kingsdown Way when it couldn't be opened – and police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident. {!jomcomment}

A spokesperson for Sunwin Services Group said: “I can confirm that one of our cash in transit vehicles was targeted on Thursday (28 June) by thieves.

“Nobody was injured in the attack, and no cash was taken.  We are currently helping police with their enquiries.”

Detective Constable Martin Timmis of Bitterne CID, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the offence taking place. It happened at a busy time of day, along a regular bus route and close to a bus stop.

“In particular we’d like to hear from anyone who saw the offenders in a car either before the offence or afterwards.

“We believe that the answer to this investigation lies within the local community and these offenders will be known to local people.

“We have a team of detectives investigating this crime and patrols from the local neighbourhood team have been stepped up in the area.”
