The new campaign website, MidanburyLaneJunction.com, reports that children from Beechwood School were travelling in a Bitterne Park School minibus when the accident took place at the Midanbury Lane junction: “thankfully and luckily nobody was seriously hurt,” says the site, which displays the following text sent from the school to parents:
"Just to let you know that some of our Year 6 pupils were passengers on a Bitterne Park Secondary School minibus that was involved in a minor collision today. None of the pupils was badly hurt but a few children were taken to hospital as a precaution."
Karen, a parent of one of the children involved with the Midanbury Lane accident, comments on the site:
"My daughter was invovled in an accident with 12 other children and 2 adults on the school mini bus; my daughter was very shaken up... Something needs to be done to make this junction safer before someone gets too badly hurt."
'Daily near misses'
The author of the campaign website says he’s personally witnessed three accidents at the blackspot, while another resident who lives in Beechwood Gardens says "there are daily near misses - I regularly hear the squeal of tyres".
Now a freedom of information request has been made to Hampshire Council relating to incidents and accidents at this junction over the last 10 years.
Local school headteachers at Beechwood, Bitterne Park, St Mary’s and Hope Lodge schools, as well as Bitterne Park ward councillors, have now been contacted for support, and support and comments about the nature of any potential measures are invited via the new website.
