Family-owned Xelabus ceased operating its bus route X13 on July 20, and the final day for its revised X14 and new X15 service is Friday, August 17. The company blames lack of support.
“Revenue and support for the services has been so low the company can no longer support this operation,” said spokesperson Philip Blair.
Service X13 linked Portswood Sainsbury's, St Denys Road, Belmont Road Portswood bypass, Lodge Road, Archers Road, Northlands Road, The Avenue, Westwood Road, Brookvale Road, and Portswood Road back Sainsbury’s. The company said the route promised residents in Belmont Road and Northlands Road a bus service for the first time.
The X14 route originally linked Portswood Sainsbury's, St Denys Road, Bitterne Park Triangle, Midanbury Lane, Witts Hill, Wakefield Road, Meggeson Avenue, Townhill Way, Chartwell Green, Mansbridge Road, Mansbridge, Wessex Lane, Woodmill Lane, Langhorn Road, Woodcote Rd, Mayfield Road – and Portswood Road to Sainsbury's. Xelabus said the X14 would restore a link from Mansbridge to Portswood and give residents in Woodcote and Mayfield Roads a bus service for the firsttime.
The company said the X14 was revised from July 23 to operate a Midanbury circular service, while the new X15 links Portswood direct to Midanbury and Chartwell Green.
The X13 and X14 routes were introduced earlier this year.
