Can anyone advise Mike Mewett, who has contacted us to ask about Beals Off Licence?

Mike writes: "I am looking for information on Beals Off Licence that used to be situated in the entrance of Riverside Park (near Bitterne Park Social Club). Is anyone able to tell me what year it was first opened and subsequently closed? I remember the owners Son Jeffery and visiting with my father to by jars of cockles and other traditional off license snacks."

The above is, we believe a picture of the brewery itself, taken from an 1896 book and supplied to us by Ann MacGillivray. It was built in 1890.
We believe this image to be out of copyright but if this is not the case we'll be happy to remove it immediately on request of the copyright owner.
Ann has kindly also sent the following two photos. She says the first is of the remains of the post that once held the sign for The Bitterne Park Tap, which once sold the products from the local brewery in bottles that were made nearby. The second shows where The Tap once stood.
