Police close M27 in airport emergency

lybe_dash8_CC_by_Adrian_PingstoneAn emergency landing at Southampton Airport created a rush hour snarl up Thurday morning (Nov 8) after an aircraft with engine problems caused police to close the M27 briefly.

At about 8.48 a FlyBe Dash 8 Q400 – similar to the one in the photo – which was en route to Jersey, lost power to the starboard engine shortly after takeoff and was forced to return to the airport.

All emergency services were scrambled and contingency plans put in place to close the motorway but by 9.05 the aircraft had landed safely with no reported injuries and the road closures were quickly lifted.
