Police & crime commissioners - independent candidate wins election

simon_hayes_pcc_eastleigh_newsIndependent candidate and former Tory Simon Hayes won the Hampshire election for police and crime commissioner on Friday, beating the Conservative candidate Michael Mates. Simon Hayes polled 80,669 votes, while Mates managed 65,804 votes. An independent candidate also beat the Tory down the road in Dorset.
 The turnout in Hampshire was 15%, with a 13.3% turnout in Southampton. Labour came third.

After the declaration Michael Mates abruptly left the civic centre, chased by the media, and without stopping for interviews. Here's a video of him leaving:
