Independent candidate and former Tory Simon Hayes won the Hampshire election for police and crime commissioner on Friday, beating the Conservative candidate Michael Mates. 'Read more' for a video interview with Hayes - and to see Mates' hasty departure from the count.
Simon Hayes polled 80,669 votes, while Mates managed 65,804 votes. An independent candidate also beat the Tory down the road in Dorset.
The turnout in Hampshire was 15%, with a 13.3% turnout in Southampton. Labour came third.
