bitternepark.info understands that budget cuts could mean serious reductions to Cobbett Road Library opening hours – possibly resulting in the library being open just three hours a day. A meeting of library users and residents will discuss the issue on Saturday 24. Pictured: protesting to keep Cobbett Road Library open in 2007
Friends of Cobbett Road Library are inviting residents to a meeting next Saturday (November 24) from 11am to discuss ways forward. Campaigners have always believed that cutting hours to the bone could make libraries easy targets for later closure.
"We know these are tough times, but the library is a highly valued community resource, especially when times are hard," said Doreen Le Huquet from the Friends' Group.
In 2007 locals saw off an attempt to shut the library following a huge campaign that brought together a broad range of people, and which even won support from national figures including Philip Pullman, Bremner, Bird and Fortune, and BBC presenter Chris Packham.
