Litchfield link scheme scrapped

litchfield road signThe idea of creating another main route linking Midanbury with Townhill Park via Litchfield Road and Cutbush Lane as part of the Townhill Park regeneration scheme has been dropped.

200 people signed an e-peition against the scheme, claiming there was “no acceptable business, social, or environmental case for the proposed new link road”.

“The new road is there only as a planning nicety, especially given the fact that within 200 metres of the proposed new road is Wakefield Road, which currently does and can continue to, carry traffic between Townhill Park and Midanbury perfectly adequately.”

Petitioners said that three people would lose their homes against their wishes, and that the route would become a rat run with increased traffic, noise, pollution and danger.

Full details of the petition and council decision are on the council’s website.
