Police say the pair, both 18, were walking home along Thorold Road around 1.20am, Wednesday, March 6, when a silver Audi pulled up and a man got out.
He approached them and allegedly threatened them with what was described as a pocket knife, before "forcing them into the back of the vehicle".
The pair were ordered to hand over personal belongings including passport, driving licenses and mobile phones. After taking details, the items were returned, and the pair dropped off at Dimond Close, off Dimond Road.
Police are appealing for information about the suspect who is described as
· A white man
· 5ft 11ins tall
· Short hair, bald on top
· Heavily tattooed arms
· Large upper body
· Speaking with a northern accent
· Wearing a black puffa style jacket and a white t-shirt
A woman in the passenger seat of the car is described as having purple hair.
Police from the Operation Fortress team, which targets crime linked with drugs in the city, are investigating. Detective Sergeant Justin Torgout said: “Both the victims in this case have been understandably distressed by what happened.
“We believe the offence to be linked to the supply of drugs but believe the men targeted were the victims of a case of mistaken identity.
“Even so, this is a serious offence and I’d like to hear from anyone who saw a silver Audi driving around the Thorold Road and Dimond Road area or a man matching the description of the offender around that time.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Operation Fortress team in confidence on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
