Clock tours could bring Triangle tourism boost

clocktowerHeritage tours of Bitterne Park’s iconic clock tower could be re-introduced as early as June, to coincide with the height of the tourist season, and bring a much-needed boost to trade at the Triangle, bitternepark.info has learned.

Visitors will be able to see Bitterne Park – and enjoy views from the Left Bank across Cobden Bridge sometimes as far as St Denys and Sainsburys in Portswood – from a whole new perspective.

However city leisure trail chiefs have issued a stark warning that those wishing to make the ascent must be in good health, as there is no lift.

Whether or not the labyrinth of tunnels beneath the tower will also finally be opened up for public viewing remains unclear. It’s thought the tunnels, some of which link the Triangle with the river, were used by salt smugglers as early as the 18th century.
