Police appeal follows St Denys Road burglary
Detectives are appealing for information from witnesses after a woman was distracted by burglars who took a safe from her St Denys Road home on May 16.
Police say at about 4pm on Thursday, May 16, the first man engaged the 73-year-old woman in conversation. It's believed a second man entered the house and forced open two locked bedroom doors.
After the men left, the woman discovered that cash had been taken from a wallet in the first bedroom. A black 1x1ft FireStar home safe was missing from the second bedroom. The safe contained jewellery, cash and documents relating to a woman, aged 40.
The first man is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall and of average build with short dark hair. He is about 21 and wore blue jeans and a grey hoodie over a white tee shirt.
The second man is white, about 21 years old and of average build. He wore a dark blue hoodie.
Detectives want to hear from anyone who saw men of this description on busy St Denys Road between 4 and 4.20pm that day. They also would like to hear from anyone who finds a discarded home safe.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Simon Murray at Bitterne on 101.
