There are opportunities to view some more unusual heritage properties around the city during September, including SS Shieldhall, St Denys Church and Townhill Park and Gardens.
Historic Steamship SS Shieldhall is an operational steamship built in 1955. Open days, on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15 offer the chance to various parts of the ship as well as other steam engines.
St Denys Church, in Dundee Road, St Denys SO172ND is an example of a fine Victorian church with one of the largest grand organs in Hampshire. There will be a picture quiz for families, and toys on the site during the open day on Saturday, September 14.
Townhill Park House and Gardens, right, are at Cutbush Lane SO18 3RR. The house was built in 1856, was previously owned by Lord Swaythling and is now The Gregg School. There are 23 acres of grounds including formal gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll. Open on Sunday, September 15.
St Alban’s Church, designed by Cachemaille-Day, at Tulip Road near Burgess Road SO16 3BB is also open to visit on Saturday, September 14.
